Hearst look alike seen in Sidney Thursday

A woman resembling Patty Hearst was reportedly seen in Sidney on Thursday morning entering Fix Pharmacy with a gray haired male companion. Police and federal agents treated the sighting seriously as investigators traced a red foreign car and a purchase of two books and a newspaper. The FBI released a composite photo and noted Hearst’s abduction in 1974, while local sheriffs said the car was unlikely to stay in Cheyenne County.

County approves first comprehensive plan for Cheyenne County

Cheyenne County planning commission unanimously adopts the first comprehensive development plan after a public hearing focused on flood hazard areas. The plan, eight zoning districts, and related regulations go to the county commissioners April 15 for final approval with final action likely later, aided by engineer Bob Britzman.

Dry Blizzard Report From High Plains Lab Near Sidney

The High Plains Agricultural Lab north of Sidney reports a dry blizzard with 14 inches of snow and only .29 inch moisture. A Sidney Flight Service Station official noted about .93 inch precipitation in the same storm. Lab bulletin lists .53 inch moisture for March, with highs near 71 and lows to 8 below zero.

Douglas to seek action defend Nichol in suit

Atty. Gen Paul Douglas said he will seek legislative authority to defend Scotts bluff Sen William Nichol and other state officials named in a federal suit filed by former Sen Terry Carpenter. Nichol won the 48th District after a recount. Carpenter’s challenge was dismissed for bond issues.

Exon orders Guard pullout after storms in Panhandle

Six days after National Guardsmen were dispatched Gov James Exon authorized the withdrawal of troops and equipment. Weather outlook shows temperatures near 60 with humidities around 40 percent and gusts to 35 mph. Fire danger remains very high in Nebraskan rangelands into Saturday as winds diminish and cloud cover increases.

DeCamp Returns to Vietnam to Help Nebraska Orphans

Nebraska state Sen. John DeCamp, returning from Vietnam, warns of uncertain if any Vietnamese children destined for Nebraska were aboard a crash near Saigon. The plane carried adoptions handled by Friends of All Children. DeCamp and the Welfare Department pursue rapid processing and faster home studies as USAID aims to evacuate orphans and refugees.
