Carpenter Files Class Action Suit in Lincoln

Three voters from the 48th district sue in federal court to seat Terry Carpenter in the Unicameral, alleging Beermann disqualified ballots for technical errors. They seek counting 126 disallowed votes and a three judge panel to direct seating, with direct Supreme Court appeal. Carpenter announced the suit. Beermann had voided over 100 ballots.

Oliver Dam study on waiting list for aid

South Platte NRD manager Bob Hahn says Oliver Dam project has been placed on the Nebraska Natural Resources Commission waiting list for engineering assistance. The commission accepted the NRD’s request at its Lincoln meeting after an earlier January priority submission in North Platte. An engineering study completed the NRD may file for financing from the commission’s $1 million development fund, with work possible as early as next month.

Nichol to seek AG aid over party seat class action

Lincoln AP reports State Sen William Nichol will request legal counsel from the attorney general to combat a federal class action seeking to replace him in the 48th District with former Sen Terry Carpenter. Nichol said he was not surprised by the suit.

County abolishes Davison precinct in Cheyenne County

Cheyenne County Commissioners approved abolishing the Davison voting precinct west of Gurley and Dalton and annexing half to Gurley and half to Union Valley. No objections were raised. The meeting also covered budget items, road vacations, a bridge project, and a courthouse annex sign decision.

Sidney school board acts on motions and resignations

The Sidney Board of Education met Monday and authorized Superintendent Russell Pederson to handle actions involving misuse of lunch funds after South Elementary School was turned over to the bonding agency Royal Globe Insurance, via Ackerman-Robinson Agency.
