Dalton Youth Nearly Scalped
A one year old Dalton boy named Lyle Geller was nearly scalped in a freak accident while riding a horse. The horse headed toward the barn through a grove of trees and a low branch scraped the top of the boy’s head. He was rushed to Memorial Hospital in Sidney and reported in unsatisfactory condition.

Two Accidents Reported In City On Wednesday
Sidney police investigated two noninjury crashes Wednesday. At 10 20 a m a half ton truck driven by James E Roos pulled from a curb and hit Harold D Smith s parked car causing 75 dollar damage to the Roos vehicle and 200 dollars to the Smith car. At 1 05 p m Phoebe Wilke s southbound car was struck by Harold Theophilus s vehicle turning from Maple onto 10th Avenue. Theophilus was charged with failure to yield right of way.

Wheelchair Performers Highlight Charity Square Dance Night
The seventh annual Nebraska Crippled Children's benefit square dance unfolds Saturday at the 4 H building with an 8 p.m. start and a Nite Owl dance to 5 a.m. Proceeds aid crippled children and adults in the state. The Colorado Wheelers wheelchair dancers perform around 9 30 p.m. with about 24 members, ages 17 to 30, joining area callers and the Prairie Schooners. Prizes include beef quarters and a Regal coffee maker, with breakfast served early Sunday.

State Aid To Sidney School Rises With New Bill
Sidney Public Schools received a second State Aid payment of 106262.75, bringing this year’s total to 212353.72. Compared with last year’s 173060.43, aid rose by 39121.51, 22.7 percent, while the Legislature increased total funding from 25 million to 35 million and adjusted distribution to favor smaller districts. Superintendent Pedersen notes the changed formula would have yielded an extra 30000 and an additional 2 mill decrease otherwise.
