Rotary District Conference Opens in Sidney With 300 Attendees

The two day District 563 conference starts Friday in Sidney with about 300 Rotarians and Rotarian Anns expected. Dr Hull A Cook of Sidney district governor leads sessions at Fort Sidney Motor Hotel and St Patrick's Youth Center with speakers including William Robbins of Rotary International and Dr Frank Court of Trinity Methodist Church Denver.

Conservation Tour Open To All Thursday

The public is invited to a conservation tour on Thursday with sponsors Cheyenne County ASCS, Soil Conservation Service and extension service. The route covers farms southeast of Potter and areas around Sidney, with experts explaining benefits of conservation. Meeting at 9 a.m. at the 4-H building, bus to Potter Cafe, tour starts 9:30 a.m. Coffee, rolls, and a noon lunch at the 3-H building.

Pope Case Advances To Higher Court

The Nebraska Supreme Court will hear Duane Earl Pope’s case after District Judge John H. Kuns denied new trial and arrest of judgment motions. The execution date was moved from early April to the week of August 3. Pope’s parents attended the Deuel County hearing in Chappell.

Mrs Belden Seeks Nebraska Mrs Jaycees State Vice President

Mrs Belden, Sidney resident and former local Jaycees president, is the Nebraska Mrs Jaycees candidate for state vice president. Election occurs at the Mrs Jaycee convention May 15 17 in Grand Island. She has four children and has earned the Outstanding Mrs Jaycee award in 1968.

Forecast shows fair and warmer conditions this afternoon and tonight. Increasing cloudiness Thursday with a turn to colder air and a chance of rain or snow late Thursday night. Unguarded Cars May Be Rifled

A car left by the highway near Lorenzo while the occupants sought help was stolen from at 11 p.m. Saturday and found partly hidden later three miles west of Sidney. Items stolen included a battery jumper cables spare tire rim tools and a jack. a checkbook was also taken. Trooper Ron Gusman recovered the items on a farmer's tip.

Semi Jackknives On Overpass Near Oshkosh

A 1968 semi tractor with two trailers jackknifed on an overpass near Oshkosh at 3:10 am. Driver Les Schneider, 40, Omaha, collided with a backing truck, causing about 2500 dollars in damage to the vehicles with no injuries reported. Nebraska State Trooper Ron Gusman investigated.

Governor Norbert Tiemann to visit Sidney for coffee

Governor Norbert Tiemann will greet local women at a Sidney coffee hour Thursday at 9 a.m. at Mrs. Gerald Matzke’s home. The visit lasts one hour before he tours The Egging Company in Gurley at 10 a.m. and attends a noon luncheon in Kimball.

Chadron Student Wins Stars of Tomorrow in Sidney

Nadine Kampfe from Chadron High captured first in the Stars of Tomorrow contest in Sidney and will represent Nebraska Panhandle Kiwanis at the district competition in Aurora, Colorado. Three Ogallala Residents Charged in Cheyenne County Burglaries

Douglas Huggins 19 Nile Mischke 25 and Charles Saxon 32 from Ogallala face two burglary counts and one felonious entry charge in Cheyenne County. Mischke held on cold case charges in Devel County, while Huggins and Saxon were arrested on warrants. The trio allegedly burglarized Sidney 66 Oil and Foster Lumber, with Kripal's Inc break in thwarted by Town Marshal John Oliverius. cash and checks stolen. a license plate clue tied to Keith County. College Youth Victim of Mishap Near Kimball

Beverly New Jersey student Hiram Scott College Woodward 19 died Monday after a crash about 6 pm on US 30 west of Kimball. Three other Hiram Scott students in the car were hospitalized in Kimball. Driver Nastrim of Tacoma Washington and a passenger were hospitalized in Cheyenne. Sheriff said the Nastrim car collided with the student vehicle west of the motel area.

Sidney Police Investigate Morning Vehicle Collision

A two vehicle crash occurred Wednesday morning at 8 15 on 14th Avenue between Osage and Newton Streets. Lina Adams 1336 Osage backed from a driveway and struck Mel Crom 2640 Alvaredo. Adams car sustained about 177 damage. Crom's truck was undamaged.

Hearing Set For Interchange Near Sidney Nebraska

Lincoln Nebraska The public hearing on the interchange linking Nebraska Highway 19 and Interstate 80 near Sidney is scheduled for late April or early May. The Nebraska Highway Commission approved the meeting after requests from Sidney residents. Location plans place the interchange about one and a half miles south of Sidney on Highway 19.
