Cheyenne County in Early Pioneer Days
Cheyenne County forms from Lincoln County in 1870 after a push for separate organization. Sidney becomes county seat, schools develop, Fort Sidney established, and early settlers report cattle and sheep interests, Indian incidents, and a growing community in the 1870s with notable residents and the first newspaper Sidney Telegraph.
