Farm Tax and Conservation Reserve Deadlines Hit Mid-April
Lincoln Nebraska farmers face a mid April deadline to file income tax returns and sign conservation reserve contracts in the soil bank program. The later deadline lets growers adjust cropping plans to new patterns while earning payments of up to 80 percent of costs for conservation practices under five or ten year contracts. Long Disputed Mineral Rights Case Appealed
Sterling attorneys for Union Pacific say a Colorado Supreme Court review is sought after a district court ruling in favor of UP. Sara M Hadke and Edward F Karr, Logan County landowners, contested UP oil rights on 160 acres 5 miles northeast of Crook. Judge George Blickhahn ruled Dec 24, 1956, that there was no fraud in mineral reservations and that title to mineral lands vested in the railroad. The case may take six months to a year before the high court hears it, with UP to outline oil lands policy after.
