Mel A. Everingham 39 of Lincoln will be Sidney public schools assistant superintendent and senior high principal, succeeding Albert Nimtz who leaves after 11 years. Tom Jones, track coach, named assistant high school principal. Everingham to start July 1, Jones may become athletic director. Everingham, a State Dept of Education specialist, has degrees from Wayne State, UNL, and a Navy veteran. aims to strengthen science and reading curriculum.

Reserve Is Winner Of Army Certificate Of Achievement
Sidney Army Reserve unit and Headquarters Detachment 424th Ordnance Battalion received a Certificate of Achievement at a Thursday drill at the Army Reserve Training Center 1445 Elm St. Lt Gen W H Arnold presented the award for outstanding efforts in support of the Army Reserve program and for recruitment cooperation. Unit members hail from Chappell Sidney and Kimball areas. Capt Elwood Lostroh accepted the award for the battalion. Newest reserve member is Charles Carlson 21 of Potter, a specialist third class who served two years with the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii.

Fox Theatre kept Giant showing for an extra day due to strong attendance over six days. The blockbuster, noted for Academy Award nominations, will close after tonight's two performances. Rites Today For Wallace Smith 73
Funeral services were held at 2 PM from the Craig Mortuary for Wallace Irvin Smith age 73 who died Wednesday in a Bridgeport rest home. Burial was in Potter Cemetery. Born December 14 1884 in Indian Territory Oklahoma, he lived in Cheyenne County since 1916 and worked as a farm laborer. Survived by two daughters Agnes O Donely Anadarko Oklahoma and Lucille Pate Stockton California, one son Albert Anadarko seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Pallbearers from Potter and Sidney were named Dewey Lovell John Jessup John Heimer Alex Spencer Louis Seeman and Arthur Schuessler.

Two Thousand Pupils to Attend Western Music Contest
About 2,000 pupils from nearly 40 western Nebraska schools travel to Sidney for the annual District Music Contest on April 11 and 12. This marks the first Sidney hosting since 1953 with previous hosts in 1954 1955 and 1956. Instrumental judges include William Gower James King and George Anderson with vocal judges Daniel Mee E E Moore and Dale Dickens plus Dickens to judge piano. Each school may enter 12 instrumental and 12 vocal entries. the Sidney band seeks a sixth consecutive superior rating.

An 80 car trainload of John Deere combines will pass Sidney on the Union Pacific Monday morning around 10:30 to 11 o'clock en route to Pendleton Oregon. The shipment is described as one of the largest single consignments of harvester equipment in John Deere history.

Simon Ribera Jr of Ordville found guilty by a 12 man jury of breaking into the Hernandez apartment on Oct 28 1956. The trial ended at 2 56 pm with verdict read by Judge John Kuns.
