Senator Pat McNamara Halts Village Tour Due to Rain

Senator Pat McNamara stopped in Shepherd last Friday afternoon to tour the village. He waited over thirty minutes for a weather break at the Argus office before leaving to keep engagements in Gratiot County. He voiced disappointment at the tour being halted. Accompanying him were Dan Reed, congressional candidate, and Mrs. Wm Colburn, Isabella County Democratic leader.

Letter Writing Week Observed in Shep herd

The 23rd annual Letter Writing Week will be celebrated in Shepherd during the week of October 2 to 8, announced today by Postmaster Ken Walker. UF Chairman Announces Two New United Fund Appointments

Jim Rush, chairman of the United Fund Campaign, reveals two new appointees Paul Hamel head of Special Gifts and Sam Wunderbaum head of the Mt. Pleasant City Division. Michigan suspends over eighteen thousand drivers in eight months

During the first eight months of 1960 the Michigan Department of State suspended, canceled, or revoked driving privileges of 18,062 motorists, a rise of 17,750 from the same period the previous year. See Drivers, Page Two.

The Shepherd Hook and Trigger Club will show the 1960 Indianapolis 500 film at the V.F.W. Hall on Thursday evening October 6 at 8 00 P M. Past viewers praised 1958 and 1959 races for pit crew speed and car speed over 100 mph. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Father of Twelve Killed in Early Morning Crash

Carl Moeggenberg, 45, of Route 3 Alma, died after a collision with a truck on M-46 west of St. Louis at about 2 A.M. He was transported to Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma where he was pronounced dead on arrival. State Police from Ithaca are investigating. He leaves a wife Agnes and twelve children, plus two brothers, seven sisters, one grandson and many relatives.

Safety Council Honors Schools in Isabella County

Seven Isabella County schools will receive recognition for safety excellence when the Isabella County Safety Council meets on Tuesday October 4 at 8 00 PM in the Municipal Court Room Mt Pleasant. The schools are named to the National School Safety Honor Roll by the National Safety Council and their names will be released at the October 4 meeting. See Safety Council Page Two.

Supervisors Face Jail Costs and Ambulance Service in Mt Pleasant

Isabella County supervisors open the October session with a focus on the jail project after bids exceeded the approved 375000. Plans call for a 42 prisoner facility, with new bids to be opened. delays raise possibility work won't start until spring. Also on the agenda are the county budget apportionment taxes salaries and potential action on the ambulance service after funeral directors discontinued it.

Dog Warden vows to rid Shepherd of loose dogs

Ward Lennox of Shepherds Village warns that owners allowing dogs to run loose will be summoned to court and fined starting immediately. He states dogs will be shot in the street if noncompliant, noting a recent surge of packs and promising decisive action to curb the problem.
