Little League Season Opens With Parade and Game
Little Leaguers, Girl Scouts, and youngsters take the street in a parade to a marching Cadet Band from Shepherd Schools. The Town and Country Recreation Association kicks off its summer program with a game following the parade. Memorial Day services begin at 9:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery with flag raising, taps, Mass for the deceased, and a procession crowning the Blessed Virgin Mary, thanking Veterans of Joe Alsh Post V F W 8215 for participation.

The final school week runs May 29 to June 3. Students take exams May 29 to June 1, with 11 50 a.m. dismissal on Monday. Report cards available June 3 between 1 and 2 P M. SPEAKER Ewart W. Ardis University of Michigan will deliver the Commencement address to the Shepherd Senior Class at the High School Gymnasium on Wednesday evening June 3 at 8 15 P M. Ardis has led a long public school career including posts as Principal of Freeport School Superintendent Inkster East Detroit Ypsilanti and his current role as Director-Bureau of Appointments and Occupational Information.

Park to Open in June with Afternoon-Only Day
The park will operate on June 8 in the afternoons only for the first week. Beginning June 15 it will be open full days.
Memorial Day Program Parade and Ceremonies
Under Joe Alsh Post 8215 of the VFW a Memorial Day program begins at 10 00 A M with a parade from the Methodist Church to the Park. Commander John Small presides and the Shepherd High School Band performs the national anthem and Sleep Soldier Boy Sleep. Forrest Rhoads delivers the address and prayer, a wreath is laid, and a flower service follows at the cemetery with general orders read and taps. Auxiliary cars provided by Rhymards Chevrolet and Smith Motor Sales for non marching members.
