Isa bella county supervisors open a week long session June 27 to discuss the proposed 42 prisoner jail project delayed by bids exceeding the $375 000 bond issue. Architects plan to adjust and rebid with a fall construction start. A Central Michigan Sheep and Turkey Producers group plans to press for stronger enforcement of dog laws to curb losses that have reduced sheep from 20000 in 1930 to 3000 in 1954 and hurt poultry profits.
Douglas A Dehn 39 a Mt. Pleasant attorney filed petitions on the Republican ticket for Isabella County Prosecuting Attorney term beginning January 1961. He was admitted in 1949, served in the Army Air Corps, and has led local legal and civic groups including the Isabella County Bar Association. J Allen Lampman not seeking re election to focus on private practice.
Michigan totals 323995 trailers with 2130 registered in Isabella County. Secretary of State James M. Hare says trailer registrations rise faster than passenger vehicles. He notes more than twice as many trailers now as 20 years ago and expects personal trailer use to grow through the decade.
Circuit Court Judge Louis F E Coash issues a temporary injunction halting three Wash tenaw County families from interfering with the Interstate 94 construction project. Defendants Harrison West Vernon Casad and Wilson West are named in a suit by Attorney General Paul Adams and State Highway Commissioner John Mackie for obstructing the highway right of way and threatening workers. The case cites previous state necessity hearings and alleged violent language and an assault by Mrs Casad against a worker.
The Democratic Women’s Club of Isabella County gathered at Mrs. Waldo Curtiss’s home in Mt Pleasant on Monday evening. Local candidates for state and county offices attended as featured guests including Elizabeth Hradel, James R. MacLean, Charles McNerney, David E. Burrows, Ray Bowen, Franklin Switzer, Ron Ervin, and Philip Epple. Candidates introduced each other and answered questions to share experience and qualifications.
The Village Council presents its first formal budget, based on three years of data showing average income $43,960.75 and expenditure $42,050.03. Led by Village President Harry Brattin Jr, officials acknowledge potential errors but stress improved financial planning is essential to sustain services and fund overdue needs like sewer cleaning, equipment maintenance, and park and street upgrades.
The Dick Murphy Agency opened a Secretary of State service last weekend with Dick Murphy as the first customer and Ruth Coughlin assisting. The office will aid license processing and provide a local convenient location for private citizens and dealers, avoiding trips to Mt. Pleasant.
