Patients at Broomfield Memorial Hospital now enjoy television thanks to the Shepherd Jaycees and Harrys TV Service. John Williams and Carl Nestle represented the Jaycees at the gift presentation. Cliff Harry installed three televisions purchased at a reduced price and will service them for a year.

Citizens Group Reviews Local School Needs and Plans
At Shepherd High School cafeteria a meeting with Superintendent Paul Warmbrunn and Board President Orville Klumpp outlined current and future school needs. Attendees toured the 1904 building section, discussed possible facilities, and registered to form seven study groups to work with the Board on a plan and budget before engaging an architect.

Plans Afoot For Maple Syrup Run
The Shepherd Sugar Bush held its first 1964 meeting at President Wm Hackett’s home with 13 members. Wood cutting bees were discussed and volunteers were invited to learn time and date from Hackett Jerome or sugar bush officers. A Steering Committee was appointed to investigate a swimming pool project. Members are Harry Brattin Jr Robert Garber Jr and Lyle Rhynard.

Supervisors Hear Reports From County Departments
The Isabella County Board of Supervisors closes its January session after year end reports from county offices. Welfare Director Maynard Cole reported a $119,597 on hand, a hopeful surplus. The board elected Roger Galer as chairman to fill the term, and Livin Vogel as vice chair. Judge Burke McClintic urged reestablishing a juvenile home. They planned a job classification study for about 40 workers and raised Cole’s salary to 6200 per year.

Fire Losses In Tri Township Show Increase
Fire losses in Coe Chippewa and Lincoln townships served by Shepherd fire department rose from 25 124 50 in 1962 to 48 423 50 in 1963 with 25 fires 11 automobile 1 dry cleaning plant 18 dwellings 13 grass fires 9 other fires. Losses totaled 10 340 00 for dwellings 30 200 00 for buildings other than dwellings 1 450 00 for contents of dwellings 5 130 00 for contents other than dwellings and 1 293 50 for other losses.
