Ground breaking Monday marked a 60 by 92 foot commercial building on Wright Avenue near the Ann Arbor railroad. Shepherd Lumber builds for Lawrence Durham to expand farm services, with further details to be announced.
Max D Augustine of Shepherd State Bank joins 1 146 students from 41 states DC Puerto Rico and Panama at the University of Wisconsin for the annual two week School of Banking residence session. 323 seniors will receive diplomas at the 1960 graduation exercises Friday night August 26. The program features over 100 nationally recognized lecturers.
Dr. Joseph Woodka of Central Michigan University urged Isabella County Democrats to see 1960 as a pivotal year restoring government to the people. He cited Nixon’s fitness and quoted critics, urging voters to reassess presidential qualifications and confronting campaign rhetoric.
Benjamin Barrera a Shepherd High School graduate completed a graduate course in Spanish at Michigan State University. He was one of 58 teachers selected for the program sponsored by the National Defense Foreign Language Institute. Barrera teaches Spanish at Fraser High School and graduated from Shepherd in 1950 CMU in 1954.
Mid state Republicans back Circuit Judge Donald E Holbrook for nomination to the Michigan Supreme Court. Supporters gathered this week behind the candidacy as Holbrook seeks the high court seat.
Michigan State Police and the National Guard will mount expanded patrols from Friday noon through Monday midnight for Labor Day weekend. Seventeen deaths in 15 fatal crashes last year mark the period as a high risk time on Michigan roads.
Postmaster General Arthur B. Summerfield announced a 4 cent commemorative stamp titled Wheels of Freedom to honor the automotive industry. The blue stamp designed by Arnold J. Copeland will debut October 15 1960 at the National Automobile Show in Detroit with an initial print run of 120 million.
