Mrs. Guild's fifth graders completed a unit on Hawaii with a Friday luau. The room was decked with flowers and palm trees, Hawaiian music played, and students wore authentic or self made costumes. They feasted on fish bananas coconuts and pineapple, sang Hawaiian songs and danced before returning to class.
Township voters face May 11 deadline to register or lose voting rights in the upcoming school election. Voters will choose two Board of Education members and decide 770,000 in new bonds for a junior high and classrooms, plus a three mill levy to boost teacher salaries and staffing. Officials note no new revenue has been provided since the new high school project.
The Shepherd Town and Country Recreation Association board met on Monday April 20. Eighty one boys signed up and paid insurance to play ball this summer. Unregistered boys will get a chance at parade day. A baseball equipment list was approved and Green to accept some bids. Rotary Club membership drive is set for May 19.
La-Thom the Magician sponsored by the Veterans Club of Shepherd performs levitation and other illusions May 1 at 8 00 p m in the Shepherd High School Auditorium. The family show features dramatic tricks including a large rabbit, a six foot tall doll and an Oriental magic theme. Tickets available at the door one hour before showtime.
Washington ordered postal adjustments to save 12.7 million dollars affecting Shepherd Michigan and other cities starting May 4 1964. Parcel post remains unchanged while first class and air mail receive priority. No Saturday money orders. COD money orders held until Monday. Lock box mail retrieval urged. Winn Post Office also adopts economy measures.
The Board of Directors of Central Michigan Community Hospital commissioned Clark Ackley to prepare working drawings detailing structured capacities for the facility. Plans advance as part of expansion efforts with further details on Page 4.
The Shepherd High School Senior Band performs Thursday evening April 30 at 8 00 P M with Music On the Lighter Side featuring the clarinet section. A beginners concert is set for May 7 followed by the junior band. This marks the Cadet Band third appearance this year.
