State Controller Hous ton I. Flournoy announced Shafter received 923 dollars as the August apportionment of the state collected in lieu motor vehicle license fees. The excise tax at two dollars per hundred of market value replaces the local poverty tax on motor vehicles. After administrative costs are withheld, funds are returned to local government for general use.
