Community Builder Hank Garnett Leads North of the River Effort
H. C. Hank Garnett, 36, president of the Greater Oildale Chamber of Commerce, drives a civic drive featuring a $5 lottery for a built and landscaped three bedroom house to raise $20,000 for working capital. The plan includes a master list of needs such as a restaurant, sidewalks, a swimming pool, a motel, a park, a bowling alley, and expanded sewer capacity to boost North of the River development. Garnett, who left Bakersfield jeweler work to found the chamber, lives at 1203 Castaic Ave with wife Jane and children Patricia, Michael, Lind, and Henry.
