23 Future Farmers Enter Livestock in Annual County Fair
Twenty three Shafter High School Future Farmers of America will compete at the Kern County Fair from Sept 28 to Oct 4. Agricultural Director Glenn O Nay notes no entry at the California State Fair this year due to high costs and market conditions. Exhibitors include Leroy Kirschenmann seeking a third grand title with six animals, and other Shafter students entering Hereford Angus and Shorthorn stock, plus multiple Hampshire and Duroc entries in swine. The department will bring two carloads of cattle including Herefords to the fair.

Rev. R. R. Richie, 65, of Bakersfield, succeeds Rev. J. A. McNaught as pastor at the Church of the Nazarene. He conducted services last night and will reside at 411 West Lerdo Ave with his wife.
