End of an Era as Shafter Press Carrier Retires
Allen Salazar, 14, begins Shafter High School this year and retires as the last Shafter Press carrier after 20 years of delivering to loyal customers. He started in sixth grade, moved his route to serve customers who relocated from Los Angeles Avenue to Walker Street, and helped carry the paper as others left. The Salazar family notes his involvement in soccer, baseball, and wrestling while balancing studies. His exit ends a long, local era for the paper.
