Shafter Celebration draws many groups for town event
Excitement builds for Saturdays Shafter Celebration as Frito Lay workers and Boy Scouts join planning at last meeting. A ribbon cutting at 11 a m marks Central Avenue pavement completion in front of Stringhams Drugs with the key to the city to Frito Lay. KUZZ will broadcast 10 a m to 1 p m from Fashion Crossroads with Jeff Woods and balloons marking the Central Avenue pedestrian area. Local activities include a dunking tank, carnival rides, pancake breakfast, food booths, music, dance, puppet show and square dance with planning final Friday morning.

Council approves Atlantic Avenue bus loading zone in Shafter
The Shafter City Council with Marland Hiebert absent approved on a temporary basis the Atlantic Avenue bus loading zone for Richland School District children until December. Dr Vera Stone RS D superintendent spoke on the plan at the Monday meeting and city staff with CHP and fire marshal had prepared lines which the council ordered painted.
