Shafter welcomes new school staff and teachers

Shafter welcomed new teachers and staff with Kiwanis and school lunches at Richland and Shafter High School during the week of August 27. City leaders and representatives from groups like AARP and MAPA attended, while SHS Patrons announced a revived program for 1986 87. New SHS staff include Gary Pederson and Betsy Peck among others, with Richland and district administrators also introduced.

MFAD District 1 Tour Sees Airport Sites and Budget Talk

Supervisor Roy Ashburn toured Minter Field Airport with manager Joe Martin meeting MFAD board members to discuss prisoner labor losses from Lerdo facility, budget timing, and status of contracts. Shafter Celebration Adds Rides and Evening Fun

New activities for Shafter Celebration include Allen's Family Amusements rides on Central Avenue near James Street. Rides run Friday evening September 12 and all day Saturday with a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. The event features carriage rides by the Woman's Club, Noble Howze Farms animals, and more booths. Street dancing Saturday night invites all to join in.
