Tenants Demand Change At Shady Lane Mobile Home Park
Four residents including A Q Abernathy plan to move out after months of discord with new management at Shady Lane Mobilehome Park in West Orange and Shafter avenues. Rent hikes of 60 to 100 dollars, illegalities in notices, and threats of utility cuts spurred organizing with help from Vi Monson of Golden State Mobile Home Owners League and EJ Flynn of California Rural Legal Assistance. Managers briefly halted increases but new 50 dollar increases and odd bills followed, prompting tenants to leave and describe the situation as hell since the park’s purchase in April.
