Shafter High School Class of 1991 sponsors a Homecoming Tailgate Barbecue Friday Oct 12 from 5 to 7 pm with tri tip salad baked potato and beverages. Takeout is available and attendees can gather in the new gym area if weather permits. A live entertainment show starts at 8 pm with Joe Drew songs and Jesse Smith readings.

Community meetings discuss Kern County CDBG funds plan
About 30 residents gathered Thursday in Shafter’s Veterans Hall for the third of five Community Development Program meetings. The session outlined a $3.5 million CDBG grant projection for next year and how funds may be spent in nine cities to improve housing and living environments for low and moderate income residents. Planner Jake Sweeny cited department aims as all applications are due by November 16, with cooperative city agreements in place, including Shafter.
