Shafter council hears growth plans from Richland district
Richland School District reports enrollment rising from 2 to 6 percent yearly with 125 new students this year. A new Sequoia Elementary is planned at Fresno and Manuel Avenue, funded by bonds and state funds, carrier for toxic reports due January. Shafter High plans 10-14 classrooms and a new cafeteria for about 1,700 students in 4-5 years. The city coordinates with the airport district on water tanks, sewer connections, and industrial growth near Minter Field, while recreation programs and a planned Youth Center face funding and facility upgrades.
