Compact flower clusters appear in red purple pink white or yellow and fade to rust bronze and silver. Dried blooms persist weeks, expanding color in gardens from late summer to early autumn. The author recalls purchasing Autumn Joy on clearance, transplanting it, and its winter dieback followed by spring resurgence.
