Richland students join ENABL abstinence program
Richland Junior High students will take part in the ENABL abstinence program this spring funded by the state. Isaac E. Garza of National Health Service will implement a five session PSI curriculum designed for ages 12 to 14 to resist pressures toward early sexual activity. The program covers peer pressure, rights in relationships, saying no, consequences of sex, and life as a teen parent, with discussions, role play, and reinforcement activities.

Rollins' Parole Bid Denied Over Refusal to Cooperate
Rollins IV, convicted of murdering 17 year old Rodriguez, had a 30 day sentence reduction denied by the California Youth Authority for failing to address issues in his treatment. Four local citizens in the Shafter Wasco area received honors from Kern County bodies. Don Zachary of Shafter and Fred Starrh of Shafter along with Wasco physician William Hagen were named for lifelong achievement and distinguished leadership by the Kern Council of Governments. Harold C. Freedman, a Shafter physician, received a special recognition from the Kern County Medical Society for 56 years in medicine and 25 years as Shafter High School physician.

The Wasco community and Thomas Jefferson School students rally after a trailer fire that destroyed Artemio Aguilar Lopez’s home. Lopez suffered second degree burns saving his 3 year old son Artemio, and is hospitalized at the Fresno Burn Center.
