Residents oppose new liquor license in Shafter

Judge Rules in Favor of Shafter RTC Payments

A Sacramento judge ruled in favor of the Shafter Return to Custody facility over monthly operation payments. The court found the contract did not authorize state cuts, despite CDC threats to reduce about 198000 dollars monthly and an 11 million dollar potential loss. Local Mennonites face modern times

The Mennonite community reflects on its heritage as it enters the modern era. Under Rev. Waldo Wiebe since 1947 the church reached record membership of 559 and expanded outreach including a Sunday service on KERN radio in 1943 and efforts to aid Spanish Mexican origin families, low income groups, and migratory laborers, with the South Shafter MB Church completed in 1949 for these outreach efforts.
