New Pastor Welcomed at Union Congregational Church
The Union Congregational Church filled nearly to capacity for the welcome of Rev. Mr Chandler as pastor. A program directed by HH Midgley featured speeches music and a piano solo by Alfred Smith. J H Porterfield gave the welcome address and Miss Marion Hitchcock reviewed early church struggles. Mrs Martha Hampton and H Kohfeld contributed readings and scripture. Plans for church modernization were presented by Rev Chandler with thanks to Mr and Mrs Richard Wells. The congregation looks forward to growth under Chandler’s leadership.

Official Here Buford H Fox deputy agricultural commissioner of Kern county was a visitor from Bakersfield Monday. Mr and Mrs K Unruh of Hepburn Sask Canada visited at the home of Mrs Unruh's sister Mrs Abe Strauss remaining until spring. Cousins Mr and Mrs K K Kroeker arrived to stay a couple of months. They last visited Shafter eight years ago. Also visiting relatives included C Dee Hanson and son who spent Armistice Day with relatives in Porterville.
