Shafter 4-H Youth Finds Profit in Projects
Kern county 4 H reports record books for 1936 projects are being approved at the farm advisor's office. About 300 projects were completed. Vernon Neufeld earned 511.00 from an acre of potatoes, while Arthur McLean profited 605.00 from four lambs, including a grand champion lamb at the Interstate Junior Livestock Show.

Funeral Services Held for Aged Shafter Resident
The remains of J. H. H. Hughes, 72, were laid to rest in Shafter cemetery after services at the Pentecostal Gospel Mission led by Mrs. E. T. Edwards. Conducted by Janzen Funeral Home, Hughes had lived in Shafter eight years, died at his daughter Mrs. A Oxford’s home following a several months illness. He was born in Illinois and is survived by four daughters and five sons, all residing in California.
