The Shafter Press promotes a free cooking school in Shafter on December 1 and 2, held at the Wednesday Afternoon Club clubhouse. Shafter will assign house numbers at no cost to owners with the Southern California Gas Company funding the numbers and placement. Buster Harmon Granted Two-Year Kern County Probation
Frank Buster Harmon received a 60 day sentence for assault after a charge of attempted arson was reduced. Judge Manuel suspended the sentence for two years with the condition that Harmon stay out of Kern county during probation. Harmon had punched the witness during a dispute over a car set on fire and has worked in the area for about two years.

Manhunt ends as killer Leroy Findlay found dead
I King, a one legged Kern River camp resident, receives 675 cash reward for locating the body of Leroy Findlay 26 Bakersfield ex football player who shot and killed his baby daughter and mother in law and wounded his wife. Findlay's body lay on a junk pile near Horace Mann school with evidence he killed himself. Officers believe the suicide followed the family shootings within hours. King found the body while scavenging scrap iron. he has a wife and three children.

Toll Authority Sets 65 Cent Bay Bridge Charge
The state toll bridge authority fixed crossing fees for the San Francisco Oakland bay bridge at 5 cents for passenger cars with up to four persons. Lieut Governor George Hatfield led calls for a 50 cent toll. The rate will hold for at least one year while the authority reviews revenue sufficiency for possible reduction.
