Twelve of the eighteen volunteer firemen at Shafter Fire Department pitched in last Thursday for a work night. They tested 800 feet of 2.5 inch hose, washed it, and replaced worn hose on the truck, with the event occurring twice yearly. Refreshments were provided by Wes Gorsching as thanks for their effort.

Friends of the school and Seventh Day Adventist Church raised 225 dollars at the Frontier Fair on October 24. Groups sold goods and ran games from Trading Post to a fish pond while eighth graders offered punch and sweets and ninth and tenth graders staged number guessing contests. A Polaroid photo booth and ferris wheel rides complemented the event with local volunteers coordinating booths and attractions.
