A fire at the L A Camp Gin Storage yard started around 3 48 p m on October 18 when smoke was spotted. Ten of about 120 bales stacked in rows were burned and the total value exceeds 10000 dollars. City and county firefighters used lime to control the smoldering bales and gin personnel moved the burned bales to prevent rekindling.
Farrell, longtime recreation director and Richland School District Physical Education chief, has been named a delegate to the National Conference on School Recreation. He will attend in Washington D C to discuss topics like combining school and community facilities, camping and outdoor education, and recreation funding for the Space Age.
Larry Bartel receives the Eagle rank at a Maple Boy Scout Court of Honor on October 17. The ceremony, led by Lew Woodard and the Order of the Arrow, honors Bartel as the sole Eagle candidate. His parents, Mr and Mrs Allen Bates of Wasco, join on stage as he presents his mother with a rose and miniature Eagle pin. Additional scouts from troops 913 953 959 and 977 are listed with merit badges earned and paths taken toward advancement.
Pellett reports being stung by a bee and wasps many times before with little effect. A large bee alighted on his face and knocked him out, leaving him unable to move until found by his wife. Neighbors summoned a physician who prescribed medicine for future stings.

Rio Bravo PTA outlines plans for a community barbecue and carnival on November 5. William E. Benton is carnival chairman, with N. R. Boggs and Paul Enns leading the barbecue and serving as general chairs. Herman Rains will oversee barbecue preparation and other food will be provided by local talent. Tickets are sold by PTA members, and a talent show will follow dinner with assured standout performances.
