Shafter council weighs park upgrades and new restroom
The Shafter City Council discussed Rodriguez Park improvements including basketball courts and possible lighting after a pilot after school league drew 40 to 60 youths. The budgeted restroom for Rodriguez Park was approved at up to 21940 from a Community Development grant. A revised City Business License clarifies operation versus land use permits, and a new refuse truck costing up to 87070 was approved for delivery around January. The Kern County district attorney's office concluded last week that Shafter city officials did not commit criminal violations related to the Return to Custody facility. The inquiry reviewed billing practices profits and bidding. D A Stephen Tauzer said the inquiry began in January after charges of improper billing by former Police Captain John Porter.
