Kern Farm Bureau Leaders Address Tax Threat to Agriculture
Dr J Herbert Snyder of the University of California warned that rising farmland taxes driven by population growth threaten California agriculture. He cited 100000 acres removed from production annually for development and urged long term land confinement to agricultural use under the California Land Conservation Act. Kern County has begun evaluating lands for agricultural preserves, with counties like Marin and San Mateo reporting large tax rollbacks under the act. Howard Frick was elected president of the Kern Farm Bureau for the coming year, with Cappello Wegis and Atkins in key posts and a slate of new directors named.
