The Kern County Union High School District forms a citizen committee to study building needs. First meeting set for Wednesday May 24 at 7 30 p m in the district administration building with 70 plus members including Mrs Edward G Nikkel George L Jones Pat Kelly and Gene Guenther. Seventeen Shafter High School teen to teen teachers conducted a pilot study at Richland Primary School. Led by Mrs. Carolyn Miller, groups of five and six visited second and third graders about 25 minutes daily to boost basic motor skills through locomotor activities and games. Francine Torrigiani praised the experience for insight into teaching challenges beyond the classroom.

Greg Wilcoxon Catches Record Moray Eel Off Cayucas Pier
Greg Wilcoxon, son of Mr and Mrs Gene Wilcoxon of 332 Faber, landed a 54 inch Moray eel weighing 8 3 4 pounds off Cayucas pier while fishing with friend Kenny Sanderson. It ranks as the second largest eel caught there, four years earlier a slightly heavier specimen was taken. Local fishermen photographed the giant catch as Mr Jones assisted in landing it.
