Shafter Merchants prepare for the Kern County Baseball League season with a $50 entry due by the 18th. Wasco Merchants have won the title in prior years as teams sponsored by local organizations compete at Richland Primary School diamond. The Merchants split practice games against Fairfax and the Mexican Colony Eagles, with Eagles fielding many future Merchants players.

Richland School Softball Standings Highlight Standings
Richland School reports active softball battles across six leagues this week. In 8th grade both boys and girls leagues are led by Miss Prieve's rooms, with boys in a tight race and girls ahead. Seventh grade girls sit narrowly in front under Miss Loveless, while boys in that loop are also led by Loveless. Sixth grade girls leaders come from Miss Holmes' room, with boys trailing the pace set by Holmes.

The Division of Fish and Game issues hunting and angling rules. Striped bass have no closed season with a bag limit of five fish or 25 pounds and one additional fish, minimum 12 inches. Trout season May 1 to Oct 31 with aggregate limits of 15 trout or 10 pounds and one fish. hours from before sunrise to after sunset. Black bass allows no closed season with a 10 fish daily limit, up to 15 pounds and one bass in aggregate, no minimum size.
