United States Study Links Fruit Gas to Wilted Flowers
The United States Department of Agriculture reports that ethylene released by ripening fruit shortens the life of cut flowers. Experiments with thousands of carnations roses snaps and narcissi show corsages wilt after refrigeration with fruit. Rose growers in the Pacific Northwest use apples to defoliate roses before fall storage, saving time and money.

He took samples home and identified the material as diatomaceous earth with strong polishing properties. This discovery helped popularize a now famed silver polish brand.
