Kern County Camp Fire Blue Bird and Horizon Club members held a song fest and coronation for Miss Do-Nut of Kern County at Hotel El Tejon. They delivered 8 000 dozen donuts, 3 500 dozen over quota, to residents across Bakersfield Wasco Shafter Delano and other areas. The drive, held April 21 to May 3, raised funds and saw 50 groups selling an average of 160 dozen donuts each.
Five girls under Mrs. Ohlsson and Mrs. Waymire completed a stone hike on Monday afternoon. They brought sack lunches, prepared potato salad and punch at Mrs. Ohlsson's home, then held a party dinner with games and a fun, relaxed finish.
Rev Hollister B Miller pastor of First Christian Church Bakersfield spoke to Shafter Kiwanis members and guests on Tuesday at Cawelo Motel. He outlined Kiwanis charitable work and the purpose of service clubs while Jack Hill introduced him. Prizes were awarded to Mrs Glen Putman and James Hahn and Hahn rode a blindfold airplane and Art Kadel did an egg stepping act supervised by Earl Weil. John Ware, a Bakersfield club past president and Shafter organizer, spoke as a host while numerous friends attended.
