Hit-Run Driver Arrested After Crash Here
William R. Cooper of North Shafter was arrested at his home on a hit and run and drunken driving charge after his car rammed the left rear fender of an Owl Taxi carrying passengers on Shafter Highway. The taxi driver reported the crash, Cooper fled, plates were found on a neighbor’s roof, and a taxi passenger received slight head injuries. G. C. Smith, a passenger in the Cooper car, was fined $25 and given a thirty day suspended sentence for two years after pleading guilty. disposition on Cooper’s case pending.

Council approves funds for Shafter sewage expansion
The City Council allocated fourteen thousand one hundred sixty three dollars from state funds to the Shafter Public Utility District to enlarge the disposal system. Most of the money funds supplies and work while part pays for an engineer to survey and report. A June 2 deadline was set for new metal rubbish and garbage containers and incinerators. The council also backed housing development for veterans at Minter Field. Mayor Frizzell led the meeting with four members present.

Head-On Collision Injures Two on Santa Fe Road
Theodore Rodriquez and Otis Welton were involved in a 7 30 p m collision on Santa Fe Road near Klassen Drive. Rodriquez suffered abdominal and ankle injuries and was taken to Kern General Hospital in fair condition. Welton and passenger Tommy Bond sustained minor injuries. Bond uninjured. A stalled car without lights caused the taxi to swerve, prompting Rodriquez to crash head on with Welton. Janzen Ambulance transported Rodriquez to hospital.
