Golden Oak School held a Friday Bingo Night organized by the PTO to raise funds for its programs. Players competed for prizes including an ant farm from Insect Lore, wind chimes, and enjoyed sodas, snacks, hot dogs, and nachos.
Cecilia Cluft died unexpectedly on March 12 2012 at home. Born January 27 1940 in Oakland she lived in Reno Yerington Ely Shafter and Porterville before settling in Shafter. She was a librarian in multiple districts and a devoted church member. Her survivors include daughters Rebecca and Lor and grandchildren Emily Celia Stephanie and Stephen. A memorial service was held March 18 at Wasco United Methodist Church. Donations may be made to Kern County Library system.
A string of early to mid March 2012 arrests includes Desi Solis 18 of Shafter for vandalism over 400 dollars, Steve Flores Garza 39 of Shafter for DUI and license suspension, Ruben Flores 23 for MISD bench warrant, Angel Molina Garcia 22 for possessing and selling substances and a switch blade, Ivan Martinez 21 of Bakersfield for outside warrants, Juan Carlos Perez 26 for controlled substances and paraphernalia, Brian Chairez 24 for vandalism and substances, Ruben Acevedo Gomez 43 for controlled substances, Jess Webb 26 for outside warrants, Leo Barboza 27 for evading police DUI and parole violations, Ramiro Vazquez 37 for outside warrants and driving on private property, and Angela Acunia 44 for outside agency warrant.
