Historic hand press moves to Shafter office
The old Washington hand press known as the man killer, built in 1852 or 1853 by R. Hoe and Co., now resides in Shafter with F. F. Latta. Latta, a Shafter instructor and author, preserves its Mariposa Chronicle beginnings and its later prints, noting its slow but high quality letter press work. California authorities rate it as the second oldest press in the state, valued among Sutter's Fort relics.
