Death Calls a Pioneer of Shafter
John Schnidt, a 67 year old Shafter resident, died Tuesday after a two year illness from cancer. Born in Russia and emigrating in 1874, he lived in South Dakota and California before settling in Shafter fourteen to fifteen years ago. Survived by a widow, two sons Edward and Henry, four daughters Mrs. Daniel F. Mettler Mrs. Wm. F. Mettler Mrs. Albert Bender and Mrs. Gottlieb Rieger, plus many relatives. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM at the Reformed Church with Rev. A Funck officiating and Janzen Funeral Home in charge.

Early Shafter Potatoes Set for April Harvest
Growers report favorable growing conditions since mid February as 500 to 700 acres near Shafter are ready for harvesting in the first week of April.
