Judge sentences man five days in county jail

Alteration on Santa Fe yards in Shafter to begin
Work on the Santa Fe yards in Shafter will start this week with 12 to 15 local men. Seven carloads of material have arrived and are being unloaded. Crews will move the north fence, relocate the tool house, and start on the Richland switches west of the depot. Linemen will adjust two poles and reset others about 20 feet outside the current line. Completion is expected in three to four weeks.

Six Shafter high school students from Glenn Nay’s animal husbandry class will travel with other Tulare and Kern county students to the Rocky Hill dairy ranch near Exeter for a day of lectures on Producing Quality Milk followed by a saddle horse demonstration and a noon barbecue. The 3,000 acre ranch features 1500 acres in dairy operations and is renowned for Guernsey and Holstein cattle and prize exhibit stock.

Isabel Gomez Dies After Two Week Illness in Kern County
Isabel Gomez of the Mexican village south of Shafter died Tuesday evening at Kern General Hospital after a two week illness. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 from Janzen Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed in Union Cemetery in Bakersfield. She is survived by her husband and a daughter, Nellie.
