The Junior Dorcas Society of Seventh Day Adventist Church held a patriotic home talent show last Saturday night. Participants included Lana Barling, Karen Weishaar, Virginia Weishaar, Kenneth Pitts, Leon Pitts, Clarabelle Fenderson, Lionel Nightingale, Clayton Wikoff, Joyce Pitts, Helen Schneider, Ruby Neuman, Marine Ortner, Evelyn Mayer, Karen Burnquist, Melvin Ruth, Arthur Mitchell and Elder A V Bentz. Proceeds from the supper and admissions go to the Dorcas Society for local welfare.
W H Carter 84 a long time Shafter parishioner says he has been a Christian more than 50 years since moving from Oklahoma 11 years ago. Rev E L Bradhurst leads the church with about 250 weekly attendees and active groups. Donna Joan Hicks 5 attends with Elmer and Mrs Hicks at 144 West Ash Street.
Members of St Therese s Catholic Church Holy Name and Altar Societies announce a building fund party on March 17 at Veterans Memorial Hall chaired by Mrs Bill Brown. The event features card games pinochle and bridge with prizes for winners. Proceeds fund a new Catholic Church in Shafter and tickets are on sale to the public for an 8 p.m. start with refreshments.
The Ebenezer Reformed Church annual potluck dinner drew a large crowd. A musical program followed featuring piano solos by Dona Weitz and Virginia Bender, a piano duet by La Venne and LaVelle Stoller, cornet solos by Wayne Kirschenmann, a cornet duet by Williard and Elaine Stoller, and a slide show of John Lachenmaier’s recent African trip.
Members of the Shafter Seventh-day Adventist church launched a two person home visit program to foster daily living through church attendance family life study and prayer. They will distribute a leaflet titled cure for worry and emphasize acquainting neighbors.
