Launch from pace first in local television history
Davis says mountains blocked live local TV from that side of the county but combining with Channel 17 and county departments yields unprecedented Kern County access. SpaceShipOne aims for 100 kilometers altitude aboard the White Knight, opening space to private enterprise and future generations. Rutan says entrepreneur approach makes space access affordable for ordinary citizens and will spark a new era in space travel.

The Shafter council will interview Barbara Craig and Susan M. Arnold for the vacant planning commissioner seat after Dr. Robert Hagen resigned in February. Arnold joined with a new letter just before last week’s meeting. Craig had been the sole applicant until then. The deadline is December 31, 2004. Arnold is director of technology for Richland School District and interim director of something unspecified. Craig moved to Shafter in 1946 and has deep local ties. The council will interview at the July 6 meeting.
