Graduates Clock In as Districts Plan 2003 Diploma Night
Richland and Maple School Districts will graduate about 266 eighth graders this Wednesday. Richland holds ceremonies at Shafter High School Stadium at 7 30 p m with ticket access only. Maple hosts 28 graduates at Maple School at 7 30 p m open to the public. Free Will Baptist Academy advanced five eighth graders and two seniors last week. Shafter High School will graduate 269 students at 7 p m in the football stadium with ticket only.

Stringray Swim Team Opens Season With County Meet
Stringray begins season and will host Kern County swim teams in Shafter on June 14. The team trains at 269 Posen Avenue pool with practice sessions Monday through Friday. Registration covers team suit, coaching, insurance, pool upkeep and meet entries.

Cross and church site plan in Kern County
A deed from the Kern County Land Company transfers three lots for a church building. The church relocated an existing building and expanded it. The Kern County Southern Baptist Association, begun in 1938, has grown to about 2,000 churches and is California’s largest denomination. Thirteen trees memorialize the original 13 church families in California. Floodlights and permanent seating are planned for the cross site.
