Shafter Police at full strength after Johnston hire
Police Chief Gene Kaplan reported at the City Council meeting that for the first time since his appointment the Shafter Police Department is at full strength. Officer Johnston, a Shafter High School graduate, recently completed the academy at College of the Sequoias Visalia and joined the force. He backs community outreach, sensitivity training, a zero defects program, and administrative excellence. Residents are urged to share suggestions and a ride along program runs each evening at 7:30 p.m. Crime was slow this week due to heat. A window was broken in Olsen 400 block with a baseball recovered. case unsolved. Sgt. Glenn Baldwin arrested William Lee Ross for drunk driving and an additional youth for minor in possession of alcohol. Luis Rodriguez of Delano was arrested after a vehicle stop for loud mufflers and evading red lights and siren. In court Monday Rodriguez was fined 90 dollars for evading.
