Governor Brown signed AB 2170 authorizing the Berrenda Mesa Cawelo Lost Hills and Cl ese Water Districts in Kern County to generate hydroelectric power on irrigation canals within their districts. Assemblyman Don Rogers calls the measure cost beneficial with sites identified including Lost Hills Road near Lost Hills expected to yield up to three million kilowatt hours annually. The bill also raises the interest cap on deferred payments by an irrigation district from 8% to 10% while carrying no state or local cost and faced no opposition.
