The Shafter City Council approved four street projects totaling about 127600 with bids to be advertised and contracts awarded August 25. Projects include Manuel Avenue resurfacing West Lerdo Highway rebuild East Lerdo Highway resurfacing and reclamite applications. Project four starts late July.

Man Shot In Head In Shafter On Central Avenue
A Shafter man was shot in the head and left in critical condition after a shooting near Munzer and Central Avenue last Thursday. Officer Jon Purcell found Guadalupe Landin, 21, alive, with a .25 caliber pistol and slug recovered at 175 Central Avenue. The Kern County Sheriff's Office Tactical Investigation Unit assisted with evidence preservation as the investigation continued.

Fire damages home in Shafter with $18,500 loss
Firefighters reported at 5:35 p.m. Sunday a blaze at 150 Golden West in Shafter. The laundry room fire spread to the kitchen causing a total loss of $18,500 on a $30,000 home and $13,000 contents. Doffs Webb occupied the residence, Ella Lehr owned it. Nine volunteers and four paid firefighters fought the blaze two and a half hours. all occupants escaped unharmed. Fire under investigation.
