Film improves irrigation ditch maintenance with plastic linings
UC Davis engineer Jack A. Corry presented findings at the American Society of Agricultural Engineers meeting in Santa Barbara. Polyethylene film a few thousandths of an inch thick reduces seepage weed growth and erosion, with life spans of one irrigation season for thinner sheets and three years or more for thicker films. Proper installation and upkeep extend durability, and cost effectiveness depends on seepage and weed issues. V-shaped ditches and smooth banks are recommended.
