Shafter Fire Dept Presents Seventh Annual Fireworks Display
Residents of Shafter and nearby areas will enjoy a free Fourth of July fireworks show Friday evening at Shafter High School Athletic Field. Don Bellows leads 205 ground and aerial pyrotechnic displays starting around 8 30 p m with help from the fire department. Contributions from the Chamber of Commerce, service clubs, and local merchants underwrite the event.

Merchants Back One Hour Downtown Parking

Fire losses in Shafter rise slightly in first half 1958
Chief Engineer Edwin Bender reports Shafter fire losses for the first six months of 1958 climbed above the same period in 1957 reaching 380 dollars. Per capita loss runs about three cents while national average exceeds four dollars. The department saved an estimated 18 135 dollars in property value with three automobile calls one uncontrolled burn one cotton fire four structure fires from faulty wiring one electrical motor and one false alarm. Cen-Vi-Ro Pipe Corporation relocates headquarters from Southgate to Shafter California this week. About a dozen employees and families join the 65 workers at the new plant on Beach Avenue. Waldo R Kell president says Shafter will be permanent HQ and employment may reach 80. The firm will expand high diameter pipe production with new machinery for irrigation and large construction projects within a 150 mile radius. Shafter Motel Victim Tells Of Cash Theft
Ralph Boels, owner of the Shafter Motel, reported a theft of 50 dollars in cash and a 15 dollar check from the motel office Friday afternoon while manager Aubury Smith was briefly away. No witness saw the burglar and police have no further details.

Recreation proves highly popular in Shafter summer program
Roy Farrell and staff run a multi activity summer recreation program at Richland Aquatic Center and Manner Park. Over 300 children are enrolled in swimming lessons conducted Monday to Friday with instructors Deanna Jensen Verna Peters LeRoy Moser and Hal Williams. The 11th annual Shafter Recreation Swim Show July 17 features a water ballet clown diving and award ceremonies.
