Southern San Joaquin Faces Annual Water Deficiency Over 3 Million Acre Feet
A Pacific Gas and Electric Company study of Central California shows a regional water deficit of about 3 million acre feet annually. Kern County and the West Side have the largest shares, with pumping rising sharply from 671,000 in 1945 to 2,141,000 acre feet in 1955-56, driving higher power costs and greater per acre foot pumping expenses.
